Welcome to the VCON 38 Programming Schedule.

Every year, VCON’s crack Programming team assembles three days jam-packed with the best in panels, workshops, and events to keep you in geek nirvana. We hope that you are as excited by the panels, discussions, workshops and presentations we have on offer this year as we are!

Building the Surreal Workshop 101: Space Pirates, Monsters, and Anything that isn’t real

Have you ever wanted to build model kits of your favorite vehicles or characters? Have you ever wanted to create unique works of art?

Join Stan Hyde and Monster Attack Team for a hands-on demonstration of how to build a model from the ground up! Whether it’s resin, styrene, or vinyl, we’ll give you the tools you need to create your own unique work of art!

Participants are encouraged (but NOT required) to purchase and bring "any science fiction or fantasy" model kit to the workshop. If you're a beginner and not quite sure where to get such a model, just send an email to programming@vcon.ca and we'll forward you some suggestions for places to look.

Stan Hyde

By day Stan teaches film students both locally and international. By night, Stan is a Nightmare, and gives people evil dreams. He has been a past VCON Artist Guest of Honor because he builds and paints models of monsters (and other SF subjects). He has been paid as a writer of a comic book, for magazines about Japanese fantasy films, and dinosaurs, and he helped write one of the first online film courses.
