Fractured Fairy Tales

Recently, Hollywood has been all about re-imagining the stories of the Brothers Grimm, Mother Goose and the like. TV shows like "Once Upon a Time" and "Grimm" and films like "Jack the Giant Killer", "Snow White and the Huntsman", "Red Riding Hood" and "Hansel and Gretel" are examples of these "updated fairy tales".

Come out to discuss what it is that suddenly made the fairy tales of old a source worth revisiting and re-imagining, what we think about the directions the authors are morphing and adapting these age old tales and whether these newer, often dark, versions better or worse than their "Disneyized" counterparts.

Thyrza graduated from the set and costume design program of the National Theatre School in Montreal and went on to work in theatre and TV and film - including as assistant costume designer on Stargate Atlantis. But she quit film work 10 years ago to do my own art and has been painting, making lamps, terrariums, photography , sculpting, assembling and Photoshopping since then.
