Monster Anatomy and Kaiju Alternate Worlds

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Session duration: 30 min

In the 1960s, pioneering Japanese artists created the first in-depth look at 'Kaiju,' the 'strange beasts' of the Kaiju Eiga (Giant Monster Films). Join Stan Hyde to explore what they discovered, and how they actually plunged into the very internal workings of these great beasts, and in doing so, extended the worlds created in films into new creative realms.

Stan Hyde

By day Stan teaches film students both locally and international. By night, Stan is a Nightmare, and gives people evil dreams. He has been a past VCON Artist Guest of Honor because he builds and paints models of monsters (and other SF subjects). He has been paid as a writer of a comic book, for magazines about Japanese fantasy films, and dinosaurs, and he helped write one of the first online film courses.
