Jo-Anne moved to B.C. from Ontario in 1988 and completed a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1993 at the University of British Columbia. She began writing contemporary fantasy fiction in the fall of 2010 and has published the first two books of a trilogy. The third book is currently going through the standard editorial hoops in anticipation of a Christmas release. She says, "The entire process has been interesting, to say the least. I feel like I’ve been on a three-year marathon and it’s not slowing down any. The learning curve is steep." After finishing the first book, she investigated her options and industry expectations concerning agents, traditional publishing and self-publishing. She chose to self-publish through a partnership with FriesenPress. "Though the path hasn’t been easy, it suits me. Indi-publishing has its limitations, but the goal posts are in flux. I believe there’s room for it, just like indie film and indie music before it."
